Redefining YOUR Beauty…

Lush Life? 🤔

Hey Loves,

How are you? How have you been doing? I wonder if you really answered that question or did you just read it in your mind and ignore it? Tell you what let’s make this a bit more interactive! I really wanna know how you’ve been doing and although this is a blog post it does not mean we can’t talk so…

  • Let me know how you are in the comments below! Write a word, sentence or paragraph!
  • Hit me on my social media all the links will be at the end of this post!
  • Go a step further and call or message me! If you’re a real OG then you have my contact details. *Hint- they are also on the contact me tab if you look hard enough!

You see, I do want to know how you are. I don’t always get comments on the posts although there are some people who comment religiously (shout out to you Glemz ❤ you dollface) and although I appreciate all of you who read my posts, I want us to get more interactive). You make this blog with me and you are every word I type and crazy though I have… it is you and me…and I thank you!

Sorry for the long intro but hey, it was how your girl was feeling and it had to be said!

With all the mayhem that is my life right now, I feel as though I have been neglecting my skin care.  If you check out some of my previous posts you will know that I am big on looking after skin. Now that I am in my 40s I have noticed that my face is a little drier than before and those dark circles, well they are still there. I have a general regime that I follow but I have been slacking so I will be setting myself a challenge and I want to challenge you too! There will be more on that on Wednesday this week so stay tuned!!

I recently visited LUSH handmade cosmetics for the first time. Yep, I normally just walk past the place but my homie Glemma dragged me inside and I thought I would give it a try! I picked up two products: LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL and OATFIX Fresh Face Mask! Both products Vegan 🌿 (so that’s a yes from me) and I am excited to give them a try and write an honest review on how my skin feels after using them! Will it be the Lush Life for me in the future? Can I get my skin back on track?

Let the Good Times Roll has popcorn (yep actual popped corn 🌽), maize flour, cinnamon and more!

Oatfix is for dry and sensitive skin with bananas and vanilla!

20170327_210800

Those are the basics for now and more to come when I do a full review! My main concern is trying not to eat it, to be honest! I kid! or am I? Do you use Lush products? Tell me more!!!

Background on skincare: Dry skin type / Exfoliate 3 times a week / I use a serum along with day, night and eye creams /  I also go to Clarins at least once every 2 months for a facial! I am not loyal to any brands but do not use products tested on animals.

New On Location with The Beauty Holder out tomorrow! See what I got up to at The International Women’s Peace Group event for International Women’s Day and also The Glamour Beauty Festival! Your girl has been busy!

So I look forward to hearing about you! 😊

The Beauty Holder on location… Professional Beauty London 2016

Hey Loves!

Yay for Thursday! It has been a long while indeed since I did an ‘on location’ post. I enjoy being able to take you on some of my movements and I will hopefully be adding some vlogs to my YouTube channel in due course.

So Professional Beauty (PB)London 2016 rolled into town on the 28th and 29th February. By it’s own admission it is ‘the must attend event for Salon and Spa professionals‘. Think hair, nails, makeup, treatments and an awesome reason to network and learn from the best in those fields and more and you have PB in a the smallest nutshell possible.

PB London’s home was ExCel London and you can only imagine the sheer scale of the event if you haven’t been to this venue before. There were over 800 different brands under this supersize roof, showcasing all they had to offer and it certainly didn’t disappoint. I have attended in the past and this year had a bigger and more exciting feel to it. I skipped last year as the time I attended before did not provide much in the way of makeup, which is of course my speciality. This year they had a couple of my favourite brands there which reassured me I made the right decision in attending. NYX, Ingot and Crown Brushes to name a few were front and centre repping for the makeup enthusiasts. The line at NYX appeared to be never ending and was pretty much around corners and alleyways from opening to closing. I did manage to snag some goodies from the show which you will see later. I got to renew my insurance with Babtac at a discounted rate and got a great free gift from Janssen Cosmetics for doing so. Sweet!

The show really is a big draw for those in the salon and spa industry for a couple of reasons. Being able to try out the latest products first hand is a plus in any book. You’re able to get up close and personal in a way that you wouldn’t normally. You can ask questions, watch demos, take part in competitions, try things on, order in bulk and get things at a discounted trade show price, which let’s face it is always a good look. There was no ‘hard sell’ from vendors but rather a whole lot of people who were really excited about their products. The atmosphere was buzzing and infectious. Seeing spray tan teams have pep talks to manicurists give high-5s every time a purchase was made, it truly was an experience. Want custom coloured towels or uniforms? Then you this was the event for you.

As a beauty blogger there was an awesome opportunity to meet other bloggers and vendors who were looking for bloggers. Networking that looks like this takes some of the awkwardness out of approaching people you don’t know. There was a relaxed vibe that just tied it all together. I have made some great connections and am looking forward to big things continuing for The Beauty Holder this year.

My friend Miss Cat Nails debuted her new range at the show and being able to support her in this venture was the glitter on the lips or nails in her case for me. Find out more about her gorgeously amazing nail art here.

Professional Beauty will be all across the UK and Ireland this year with stops in Manchester, Dublin and Belfast. They will be stopping in India, Dubai and South Africa also this year. Worldwide and then some. They will be busy for sure!

If you’re getting overwhelmed at the thought of attending such a huge event like this and haven’t done so before, here are some Beauty Holder tips and other useful bits of info!

  • You do not have to be a professional to attend. You can go as a visitor. So even if you just love makeup or skincare for example you will still find it a great experience.
  • Have a budget in mind. Even with products at a discounted price, you can end up spending unnecessarily and get caught up. Most places accept cards but others are cash only.
  • Make a list of what you really need and find out what vendors will be in attendance. Details are out months in advance and constantly being updated.
  • If you’re a student this is for you!
  • Network on social media and any other way you want to before you attend and find out who and what will be there. Jonathan Cheban (Kim Kardashian’s bestie and Chloe Sims Towie) were there.
  • Take your food and snacks with you. You pay hefty for food and drink there. You have been warned!
  • Be prepared to queue. There is a lot to see and lots of people who want to see it along with you. Put on your comfy shoes.
  • Entry is normally free!!!!
  • There are handouts and freebies galore.
  • Lots of brow and mascara stalls too! By lots I mean LOTS!!

It is a fun day out with friends or your team if you’re able to do it.

You can see I did well to contain myself. From L. to R. Crown Brushes, Ingot Black Gel Liner 77 and my free skin care gift from Janssen Cosmetics. All in a Vegan bag! So excited to try this range so look out for a review coming soon.

Hope you enjoyed your little trip to Professional Beauty London 2016 with me.

Straight…No Chaser! Mary Kay Skin Care Review!

Hey Everyone!

I sometimes am reluctant to do product reviews because I don’t want people to rush out and purchase (or not) items based on what I say. A lipstick, fine but skin care products are a different ball game. I receive some very lovely comments and emails from people asking what I use on my skin so that they can go and purchase it. Whilst the compliments are very very kind indeed and make this old lady feel warm inside, I always advise (basically give a speech) about not rushing to purchase something that I use and expecting the same results.

All of my reviews come with pretty much the same disclaimer. They are always my honest humble opinion. I am not paid to make these reviews. Products have been purchased with my own money. Whilst I love that you enjoy what I review I also want you to know that I do not want you to spend money unnecessarily. I do not want you to spend money on products that you have not done your research on first.

I have been shouting from the roof tops about my newly ‘natural’ hair experience. I have watched countless YouTube videos on hair, read blogs and articles on products and if I went out and bought all the recommended products I would be broke and homeless no doubt as I would have no money for anything else. I say all of this to simply say do your research. My information can form part of that research but what works or does not work for me may be a different story all together for you!

Looking in the mirror lately I feel like my age. I am in my late 30’s and feel it. I absolutely know I have not looked after my skin the way I should have from a young age. It has really only been since I got into Make-up and beauty that I have paid a little more attention to my skin and have vowed to do better ever since. Sorry for going on. Let me just get to it!

I consider my age, skin type, work environment/ job, time, benefits when looking for products for my skin. A friend from High School contacted me a couple of months back about trying Mary Kay. She had recently become a rep for the brand and wanted to tell me all about it. It worked out well as I was due to visit America for the holiday season. After a few mishaps we met up and I purchased a skin care set.

What I like about Mary Kay!

Like Avon, Mary Kay was one of those products I associated with my Mom. Sometimes I wish I paid attention to the regime she used because she is a beautiful woman who looks as good now as she did when she was my age. They have been around for more than 50 years and they have worked hard to cater to women of all ages and races. They are a global brand that has evolved with time but kept the same promise throughout to help women be all they can be and achieve their dreams.

Mary Kay Skincare

The time wise line is supposed to be a ‘miracle set’ with ‘age-fighting benefits’. I remember reading that they had revamped their skin care lines and although a tad apprehensive, I was excited somewhat also. The kit I purchased came with a time wise, 3 in 1 cleanser, day solution, night solution and moisturiser.

Beauty Holder Roundup!

Price: 4.5/5

For the 4 (four) full sized items above, I paid about $90 which at the time was about approx £70. A little goes along way and I have barely made a dent in them despite using the products since the beginning of the year on a daily basis. I would say it is value for money. Mary Kay is not available in stores as far as I know and is online or via beauty consultants so there is a direct cost saving in that alone.

Packaging: 4/5

The glass bottles that the day and night solution come in affected the score. Glass bottles with pumps that you can twist and lock. I don’t like glass bottles. When they are in my travel bag I can hear them clunking about. The day solution bottle is not clear and so you cannot see how much you have used or may be wasting as it is inevitable that some of it will waste. The cleanser and moisturiser are the largest sizes at 4.5oz and 3 fl oz respectively. They come in a soft pink shimmer plastic squeeze tube with the Mary Kay logo along the side. The day and night solutions are 1 fl oz each. I guess the greedy side of me thinks I should be getting more but you really only need about 1 or 1.5 pumps of each. I can see the way they draw you in with the night solution bottle as that is clear so you can see the multi coloured solution beads. You know that instantly has your mind thinking it is good for you.

They came in a see through bag with a booklet and each were individually packaged in a box with the same design and signature logo.

Product: 4.25/ 5

When my friend came over to show me the products I was able to try them out. It was great at the time but being able to use them for the past 7-8 weeks has made it more realistic to see how my skin feels about them. I don’t know if I have seen the full benefits yet. My skin does not seem to like the cleanser and I find it drying but the other products I like. There is no funny smell or residue and they do not appear harsh for my dry skin. They are pretty lightweight- especially the solutions and it feels like there is nothing on my face at all.

The day solution has a SPF35 factor which provides serious protection against sun damage. With the moisturiser it then feels a little heavier on my skin and you can maybe take this as double protection. I don’t like the greasy feeling it leaves me with after about 30 mins but once fully absorbed into the skin it doesn’t look or feel as bad. I have noticed some shine throughout the day where I normally do not have any but again it could be this transition to the products that is taking a little longer than normal.

According to Mary Kay, Timewise has 11 age-defying benefits such as energising, renewing and smoothing the skin. It does make my face look refreshed but I cannot say I can check all 11 benefits off yet. They do say that the benefits are of course at maximum potential when used together.

I cannot believe I am actually saying this being the selfie queen that I am. I do not have any comparison photos to show you my skin before I started with it. I do have one of me now. I will say this is not just as a result of the Mary Kay as I also exfoliate, use my clay mask and so on and so forth 🙂 I had already started on the brows when I remembered to take this pic. Don’t judge me!

simply me

So after all of that. Would I purchase Mary Kay again? Yes I would. I would certainly go for the night solution and possibly moisturiser out of the set above . I am pleased with what I have seen so far and am going to really empty these products to do them full justice and ensure it is money well spent. I will keep you posted on my progress.

Thank you to my friend Jodi for introducing me to Mary Kay. If you would like to find out more, check out the Mary Kay website. If you are in the Florida area and would like Jodi’s details please let me know.

Have you tried Mary Kay? Would you if you haven’t already? What are your thoughts on Mary Kay?

Coming up! Something for the Men and some makeup looks (it has been a while)!

Have a great day!

Hot like Fire! My beauty favourites of 2013!

Hey Beautiful People!

I tried to do my favourites every month when I first started blogging. Needless to say that I didn’t really follow through. Don’t worry, I slapped my hand for you. I am going to make more of an effort to do so this year so here is my first attempt.

There were products that I absolutely adored and some that I liked and some that were ok and so on down the chain until we get to loathe- I try not to hate! Strangely enough, I did not buy loads of beauty products. Loads of them I already had and I tried to make use of them.

Breaking down my beauty (includes make-up and skin care) spend would probably look like this. Look away now honey! 🙂

Miscellaneous is for things like the giveaways etc.

So here are the products I loved the most. If you have seen my posts then you know I am about that drug store life. So don’t expect too many high end products!

20140101_202812

In no particular order:

  1. Jordana Best Lash Mascara and Fabuliner. I get way too excited about these in my YouTube Videos. Such a cheap product but seriously way too good.
  2. NYX Lipglosses in Dolly Pink, Smokey Look and Tea Rose. They smell delicious and are gorgeous on the lips.
  3. Rimmel Moisture Renew Lipstick in every colour especially ‘As You Want Victoria’ and ‘Vintage Pink’
  4. Olay Quench with Shimmer. I am convinced I am from Twilight every time I use this. Great for dry skin as it really does quench and provide moisture where needed.
  5. Dermalogica Intensive Moisture Balance. Love this as a day and night cream. My skin loves this stuff.
  6. Ardell Accent Lashes. Enhances the eyes for a natural look. 305’s are a mix of natural and dramatic in one.
  7. Latex free cosmetic beauty sponges. Fell back in love with sponges again this year. Multi purpose!
  8. Armani Silk Foundation. Just like my skin but better.
  9. EOS Lip balms as they are super cute and long lasting.
  10. Make-Up Designory Foundation palettes. These are new and improved and are great for my kit. There are 2 palettes that cover mostly all tones and shades and can be mixed which gives me great matches. My brides have had a flawless beat with this product this year and I am impressed. A special mention on the AJ Crimson Foundations which I have a review coming on soon!
  11. MAC Eyeshadows– neutral tones mainly like Arena, Saddle, Brown Script and Bronze.
  12. MAC Extra Dimension Skin Finish in Magnetic Appeal. Ladies! This highlight will give you life!
  13. INGLOT Mattifying Pressed Powder. This stuff is a oily skin nightmare. One of my best buys this year.
  14. MAC Pro Conceal and Correct Palette. Genius product!

The others that were not pictured:

  • Origins Charcoal Mask
  • Simple Make-up Remover wipes
  • Homemade Lemon Face Scrub
  • Clarins Eye Serum
  • Anastasia Brow Powder
  • Cover Girl Queen Collection Pressed Powder
  • Black Opal Stick Foundation
  • Sleek Eyeshadow Palettes
  • Revlon Lipgloss in Nude Lustre- discontinued but I got a couple to tide me over!

There are a couple extra special ones that will get the spotlight on their own, it is only right! Be on the look out for them.

What were you loving last year? Beauty or otherwise? Let me know. We can compare notes!

Hope you enjoyed this blog! I had fun looking back at some of the goodies I couldn’t get enough of last year.

Happy New Me!

Happy Year to you! Happy New Year to your families, friends and indeed everyone, everywhere!

HappyNewYou

I have been away for a little bit trying to evaluate some things. This blog included. I felt anxious, fearful and confused about whether or not to continue this blog as I tried to figure out whether or not I really had a voice that people wanted to hear. My mind was full of all the negative energy that eats away at your creativity and self-belief. My sisters in blog and also special friends, Kaye (Beautiful Kayekie) and Amanda (Etta’s Threads) supported and helped me understand what I was feeling. Ultimately their advice along with some prayer and internal dialogue brought me back.

I love BLOGGING. I LOVE MY BLOG! I guess I felt like I was letting you guys down by not blogging as often as I would like. I felt like my content may have become redundant and a little boring for some of you. So I needed to regroup and reevaluate. I am back and feeling better than ever, New Me (blogging me) and New Year!

So what does this new blogging me look like? Well, let’s just say it will include lots of ways for you to interact with me. More make-up, beauty, hair, skin care and so much more. I don’t want to give it all away now but let’s just say you will be hearing a whole lot more from me in 2014 and beyond.

Thank you for sticking around and not giving up on me. Thanks for every comment that you make, every share, every like or every discussion about me or my blog. Thank you for being understanding and more importantly for giving up your time to check out what I have to say.

Special Thank you to Kaye and Amanda. I truly love you guys. You mean more to me than I truly express!

Happy New Yearmay it be filled with the love and laughter that give life extra measure!

Straight…no chaser! Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask!

Hey Everyone!

I let this review run on a little longer than the original 6 week deadline as I wanted to give it a real chance with my skin. For my intro to this product, click here.

Not sure if it is down to the fact that I have been wearing more make-up lately or just my new skin care regime but I have been noticing couple more blackheads. Skincare is super important to me and it trumps make-up every time. No matter how much make you put on it is important that your skin is not neglected. Whether you suffer with acne, blemishes, the odd breakout or more, you need to look out for your skin. I know you don’t feel as confident when your skin does not look it’s best. Ensuring that you have a regular routine for your skin type makes a huge difference. As well as treating any issues or concerns you may have. It is not enough to simply ignore the issue and use make-up as a solution! A house will not stand without a secure foundation! I know you get me! Here are some of my previous skin care posts.

Most of the blackheads I find like to hold court around my nose. I have learnt not to squeeze or pick at them as they like to retaliate and come back with their whole family! Disrespect! I have tried a couple of products and even some of the home remedies like ‘toothpaste’. I am pretty sure we have all tried toothpaste. In any case, this mask came highly recommended and I wanted to see if the hype was real!

What I love about Origins!

100% natural oils and organic ingredients are nurtured into every single product. Origins are committed to ‘protecting the planet and it’s resources’ and that for me speaks volumes in a single sentence. Many companies say they are natural or promise to kind to the skin but when you break down all the additives and parabens you clearly realise how unkind they are. Origins is not that company. With everything from their REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE program to their PLANT A TREE campaign it is not hard to see why they are a brand you can trust. The dilemma comes when trying to figure out what to try next! For more about Origins, check out their website.

As always with any of my reviews, opinions are that of my own and products have been purchased with my own money unless otherwise stated. That being said all reviews will be my honest opinions.

Beauty Holder Roundup!

Price: 4.5/5

I paid £22.00 for my charcoal mask. For the size (3.4 fl oz. / 100ml).  The only reason they lost a half point is for the simple fact that there is a smaller size at £10.00 which would have been great for me to trial the product. As far as skin care goes I think the price is reasonable for a high end skin care product.

Packaging: 5/5

This had to get top marks for a couple of reasons. One of the main ones I mentioned above. The recycling program that allows you to bring back any brands cosmetic jar, bottle, tube and the like (even ones that were previously unrecycleable) to Origins where they will recycle them for energy recovery. How awesome is that! It is things like this that have really made my heart happy. The mask is contained in a soft clear plastic tube that allows you to see the product. It has a simple white flip top cap. There will be very little wastage but with any kind of tube like this if you really want to get the last drop I am sure the old cut and scoop method will work well. It is within travel limitations so can stay in your pocketbook on the plane- hey… just putting it out there.

Product: 4/5

I am sure the saleswoman felt like it was the spanish inquisition when I started asking about this product. I may love beauty products but I don’t love wasting money. It was important that this product worked with my dry skin and not against it. That it was simple to use and so on. She was clear and honest. I remembered she explained that it has been known to cause a slight breakout as it clears the pores and gets out any dirt. Instructions are clear. Open pores, layer product and rinse off. One of the main ingredients as the bottle will list is Lecithin which dissolves impurities. If it dissolves them there should not be any breakouts, right?

Used it within days of purchasing and even did a mini video. It feels real cool when it goes on the face and dries within minutes. It dries tight. Very tight. Moving my face was a mission. I felt like if I sneezed my face would crack. It was that serious. When you get an instant reaction to a product like that for me, it means one of two things. It is working or there may be trouble ahead. Luckily iy was not the latter. I left it on for about 10 mins then rinsed off with warm water.

Did my blackheads vanish immediately? No! Did the go at all? I would say a couple but some of the ones I found more noticeable were still there. Within a couple of days I noticed a little spot come up. So the saleswoman was right. I was not impressed nonetheless. I mean I want products to protect me from blemishes not encourage them to come out and say hello. That is where I needed to change my thinking.

No matter how much I cleanse, tone and moisturise, it is that deep clean that really does get to the dirt you don’t see. This mask provides that. The blemish came and left and over the next couple of weeks, the blackheads moved out too. I have used it once a week and I do actually see a difference. It feels like my skin is brighter in places and those pesky blackheads are very few and far between.

On the down side, I have noticed that my skin is a little drier since using the mask. Although I was advised it is appropriate for all skin types I am reluctant to use it more than once a week and in fact may go as far as using it once a fortnight. That to be fair is my only gripe. People with dry skin don’t want anything to add to the dryness. The odd blemish/ spot I can deal with as it means my skin is getting clean deep down under. That really is not a bad thing.

It does not have an unpleasant odour and is a little tacky to the touch. When it dries you want to peel it off as it looks like that kind of mask but it isn’t and you will have a tough time treating it like one. It washes off easy with your hands or a wash cloth.

A little goes a long way and a thin layer does the trick. Just make sure those pores are wide open so that it can work its magic.

I am working on more for my skin such as my 30 day water challenge and more organic products. This mask with its White China Clay which ‘absorbs toxins’ is now going to be a part of my regime. It is a worthwhile investment if you have not thought about a deeper cleanse. When you next use a make-up wipe of face cloth for a surface cleanse, remember there is more under the surface that we don’t see!

Origins Active Improvement Charcoal MaskThat cheeky blemish Plain Face

Ask me not why I was making that face! Oh dear!

Here is a pic of my skin with just my signature brows and lipstick on. No foundation, bb cream, tinted moisturiser- nothing! This is why I say it has brightened my skin. Iphone 4s pic in natural light. I was totally having a good brow day!

Brows and lips   lips and brows only

Hope you enjoyed this review. This was my first time trying Origins and now it looks like they have a new customer. Beauty with conscious appeals to me on all levels.
