The Beauty Holder on location… IWPG Women’s Day Event! 🌍 🌙 ❤️

Hey Loves,

A friend recently told me that I have inspired them to pursue a dream that has been silent for a while. I have been told that I am an inspiration before and I never really felt comfortable with such a title. I mean, an inspiration? How Sway? Does anyone have the answers? (If you know, you know). Blessed am I in more ways than one!

My head is often filled with ideas, conversations and dreams. I am inspired by others, people who I know and who I don’t, to do more, do better and love harder. In my back and better post, I spoke of having some time out for me, to find more of me and get on track to being me. Attending this amazingly powerful event delivered by the IWPG (International Women’s Peace Group) ignited a flame through a showcase of stories, dance, interviews and more. It reminded me that inspiration is personal to different people for a multitude of reasons and that it is all around us.

I have one of my best friend’s Tim to thank for inviting me to the event. I admit I was skeptical at first as I had not heard of IWPG until the show and even on the day I wasn’t sure about going as I was unwell and super tired. You see that devil tries to steal your joy and peace at any given opportunity. Not today, it was not going down like that. My other friend’s flaked on me and I was fashionably early (by like 2 hours) but I was meant to be there and empowerment that took place showered me with emotion.

The IWPG is an organisation that is championing world peace. I do not make that statement lightly as it is not some wishy-washy dream, it is a full-time dedication of selfless, hard-working, determined women who WILL achieve global peace. I have been reading up and learning more about what they do. This simple blog does not truly capture the ethos and power of this movement and I would love you to find out more here. Women from every corner of the world along with men, girls and boys are campaigning, petitioning, peacefully working to see peace a reality in this lifetime and always! Not as a one-off thing but as a forever truth for everyone, for those who have only known war, fighting, suffering, mutilation and every unthinkable act that divides us… for EVERYONE!

On March 8th 2017 in London, the #SHECAN cultural showcase hosted by IWPG celebrated women on a day that reminds us that #SHECAN and #WECAN achieve peace! I was touched by the ‘Stories of Santa Marta’ and the interpretive dance of war and divide and the healing hands of peace. The bloggers were awesome because as a blogger myself, I understood much of what they have been through as they try and find their place in a community that has many voices. Unfortunately, we were unable to take pictures or videos but the event was recorded and more will be on their website.

20170328_135009

I began this blog questioning whether I could be called an inspiration when there are people all over the world fighting for a freedom that I have and do not always appreciate. Am I worthy to be called an inspiration? YES, I AM! I do not have to list the reasons that make me an inspiration as, like beauty, it is personal between the person I inspire and myself. I hope to one day do more and inspire more people. Your inspiration will take many forms, it could be in your cheerful disposition in the face of adversity or the way you laugh from your stomach or the in the warmth of your hugs. It could be your business and the work you do or the dreams you are making a reality but you inspire someone and if you didn’t know, you inspire my blogs on levels that are deeper than you know.

Thank you IWPG, I look forward to learning more. Thank you to everyone who took part on the night and all those who I met. Big thank you to Tim, who knew that I needed to be there… Love you, T-Bo!

Totally DISTRESSED Out!

Hey Loves!

Hope you all are full of love and happiness in abundance… and then some! How are you? How are things? Let me know what’s good with ya! 🙂

So, let’s be honest! The ‘distressed’ look (clothes with holes, rips, and bleach as a starter) has been around forever. I know dear old Kanye West likes to think he is the inventor of all things but we know better! The idea of rocking worn out clothes or ones that look like they have been in a fight, with a bear, is not a new concept for real. That is the thing with ‘trends’ they just keep on coming back round and round! My 80’s babies know what I mean. If FAME (I wanna live forever) was life, then you had off the shoulder shirts and leggings with holes and the whole shebang. I love the revival of it all but I don’t love the extortionate prices some stores are charging to get the look. Why pay when you can do it yourself.

What is even better is that when you distress your own clothes you can:

  • create your own unique pieces
  • upstyle (see what I did there) some of those items in your wardrobe that have not seen the light of day for a while
  • you DO NOT need to be a seamstress…I am no professional!
  • save some money

This look is for anyone and there is no age limit on fashion as I say. I am not sure my Daddy would approve of me walking around with holes in my leggings! So raid your closet, your Daddy’s, Momma’s, Boyfriend, Girlfriend or WHOEVER! It is time to get totally distressed out! Below I have used 5 pieces from my wardrobe that I no longer wear. I have not taken the time to be neat or precise and have only used scissors or my hands! So let’s get ripping!!!!!

Sorry the colour is slightly off due to the lighting and flash.

Leggings!

Either fold in half or down the middle invisible seam line and then cut lines as wide as you want. I skipped the knee on one pair and only did my calf and thigh area and then went all the way down on the other! Simples!

Sweater!

The cold shoulder is the rage so just cut around the collar all the way to the back tag so you can have the choker effect which is also big in the game right now. Two looks in one! Boom! Boom! Shake! Shake the room!

picture_20170208_201328153      picture_20170208_201608247

You can also take an old hoodie and just cut the hood off for the ultimate nod to the 80’s style icons…think Flashdance (if you don’t know these movies…google them, please)!

T-Shirts!

Whether you want small detail or big in your face style, this is what you make it. Think about adding a gorgeous bralette that will peek through for added effect!

Beauty Holder Tips!

  • Don’t try to be too precise with cutting lines. It is no fun that way and will drive you crazy.
  • Take it up a notch and add lace, ribbons and bleach/ dye it up if you have the time
  • Cut or rip where you want. You do not have to imitate anyone else. This is all about your style
  • ROCK it with confidence and PRIDE. This is your handy work.  You will probably get asked where did you get your top from and enjoy letting everyone know it is an original, darling!
  • Now this is not going to be for everyone but it is fashion and therefore it is fun! Well to me it is!

Hope you enjoyed this post! I may make a video for my channel on how I jazz up some of my other pieces, so make sure you’re subscribed. There will be a new video this weekend so stay tuned. Link below!

Let me know what you think? Will you try any of these looks? Have you distressed your own pieces?

I’m Back and Better!👌🏾

Hey Loves,

This first sentence has been written so many times and backspaced just as many. I mean how do I honestly start off this post considering I haven’t written one in so long! Actually, that is not all the way true. I have been blogging in my mind for the past 8 or so months; those thoughts have just not made their way out of the chambers in my mind. I guess some have broken free now and it feels good to say I’m back and I’m better! What does that even mean, though? Sounded good when Bryson Tiller’s dulcet tones sang it in ‘Don’t’ but in my world, it means more than I may be able to express right now.

I wanted to take a break from social media. I wanted to take some time for myself, to understand some of the things I was going through. I wanted some of my mental to catch up with my physical change. Yes, I intentionally chose the word wanted! I needed to look after my health, which was telling me I was a priority and not an afterthought. I wanted to look in the mirror and not pick myself apart because what I saw did not match up to what was ‘liked’ in the fickle beauty industry.

You see, no matter how confident we appear we all have inner battles that require us to reset our thinking so we can remind ourselves how AWESOME we are! Awesome AF! Rewiring some of my thinking has pushed me. Challenged me. Trained me. Strengthened me. Life has taken a series of interesting turns and I am grateful to God for seeing me through. Learning, evolving and continuing to focus on being the BEST me I can be… NO LIMITS!

So yes, your girl is back and better! Better in part also to many of you and your fantastic messages and love. Big thanks to those of you who got in touch telling me that you missed the blog. Missed me, and my small contribution in the form of this blog that does its own thing. Thank you for encouraging me and for sharing ways I have inspired you. Those that know me, know that I really love this blog and what it represents. The strange goings on from a chick that loves family, friends, Brooklyn, music, makeup Trey Songz and so much more! I have missed you all and pray that you are good and life is all it needs to be for you right now- especially in these trying times!

I’m gonna end by saying THANK YOU to everyone who voted for me in the Best Makeup Artist 💄 category at last year’s AFRO MODEL AWARDS! I don’t think I will ever get over the shock of winning. It was very soon after that night that I took time out. I put shout-outs on Twitter and Facebook but let me holla on here too. I am so grateful and blessed at the recognition and hope it raises your spirits and reminds you that you can do and be anything you want to. No matter your age or the stage you’re at in life! Your journey is in your hands!

So, I’m 40! Now what?!

Hey Loves,

I’m still on a blogging streak and I hope that you are enjoying the current posts populating your mailboxes. I know there have been through peaks and troughs with my blog but I am glad that you all have stuck with me. Please remember you can comment and share your thoughts on anything I post. I love interacting with you!

This is one of those posts I have been writing in my mind for a while. I don’t know why the thought of turning 40 brought about so much anxiety. Actually, I do know. It’s because for most of my life I have put unnecessary pressure on myself to have certain things done before 40 and not all of them have materialised. On my birthday,  I sat and thought…

So, you’re 40! Now what?!

So you’re not married, yet! So you haven’t had more children! You haven’t travelled the world and become the dancer you thought you would when you were little. You’ve been hurt by those closest to you. You’ve not got money like you once did. Blah, Blah and Blah once more. What I decided to say to all of that and the many other comments beating me with a stick over my head, was SO WHAT!!!

Yep! SO WHAT! I even said it to those people brave enough to comment on my life without knowing anything about me or my life. SO FREAKING WHAT!

It has taken me a while to admit it but I have had a wonderful life in many respects. It has not been without it’s ups and downs but I am grateful to reach the age of 40 and to have accomplished many of the things that I have done. I pretty much had my life planned out by 18 and expected to achieve certain milestones by 25, then 30, then 35 and 40 etc. What I have not done is acknowledge that even the smallest victories have shaped me. The toughest trials have moulded me and through God’s grace I have come out on top.

I have battled severe depression and self harming (which many may not know). I struggle with having a beautiful Son who is on the Autistic Spectrum and all that entails. I have had weight struggles for a large part of my life and have wanted to end my life. I have been betrayed by ‘friends’ and family. I am constantly judged. That is the shortened version. I say this to say that the life I had planned was not what God had planned. I now realise I had to go through this to become stronger and wiser.

So I am 40. I am a number older than I was last year and that number represents so much. It represents in part, my growth, my knowledge, my love and determination to continue to reach for the stars and beyond. To love hard and receive love in return. That my age doesn’t define me or my ability. It doesn’t define what others think of me or my life.

We have become so fixated with judging what we do not understand. If you haven’t lived it, how can you judge it? I may not have the level of success that you want me to have but it doesn’t mean that I do not have success. I may not be married but it doesn’t mean I do not have love or am in love. My Son may not speak but it doesn’t mean he can’t communicate his love in another way- which he does!

Right now you may be going through something you don’t understand. It hurts and you want it to stop. IT WILL! You’re in a stage of metamorphosis. You are changing from your ‘caterpillar’ form to become the beautiful butterfly version of yourself that is stronger, wiser and more beautiful than you can currently imagine. Don’t give up on you. Don’t give up!

Enjoy life and your journey. Live your life and don’t let it live you. Make mistakes and learn from them. Don’t pressure yourself to react to what the world wants you to. Follow your heart and instinct…no one knows YOU like YOU!

I am blessed to have reached the beautiful butterfly age of 40. Many others have not been as fortunate and I refuse to let another day pass letting the past mistakes I have made hold me back from living a happier and healthier life. Age truly ain’t nothing but a number. A number that increases in health, wealth and strength!

Thank you for sharing this blog with me and on a more personal level some part of my 40 years. Here’s to many more for you and me!

US Vacation Photo Look Book 2015!✈🚇🚍🗽☀

Hey Loves,

This year has been met with challenges at almost every turn. I am so very grateful for the support and love I continue to receive from my family, friends and indeed at times strangers.

This summer I wanted to take a break from makeup and work and focus on some much needed family time. Along with my Son, I spent most of the summer with my Sister, nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and extended family. Nothing like reconnecting your soul with love to recharge and put things into perspective. So easy to take what we have for granted and by that I mean people, love, happiness and friendship. Thank you to everyone who made our trip AMAZEBALLS…you know who you are!

Here is a little video of some of the looks I wore whilst in Florida and New York and the weather was every bit as glorious as my time.

What about you? What did you get up to this summer? Did you get away? Stay home and chill? Let me know!

Hope you enjoy this video as it is a break from the norm and I am hoping to get back into the swing of filming for you soon!

Makeup Monday: Summer Lips! ☀💋

Hey Loves,

Summer is officially here and has been for a minute! In between the heat waves and thunderstorms I hope that you all are enjoying the seasonal change where you are.

Haven’t posted a makeup look in a while. I’ve mentioned before that I don’t wear makeup on a daily basis. If anything it has it has been specifically for special occasions at the moment. My go to look in warmer weather and everyday is brows and lips. looking back at my early blog posts I had a serious addiction to bold and bright lips. Recent posts I have favoured a nude lip but I am getting my bold lip mojo back.

Bright lips are not just for the summer. They can be rocked whatever the weather.

Beauty Holder Beauty Tip: Don’t be afraid of colour. It is all about adapting a shade for fair, tan or warm skin. Great time to mix custom colours with your lipstick and glosses. Lining your lips with a darker shade and then adding a light lipstick in the same colour family for an ombre and softer look.

ORANGE LIPS

On netflix it may be ‘black’ but in my makeup world, Orange is the new red! A bold statement lip for the summer this outshines a red lip for me anyway of the week. It warms the skin and gives such a glow that looks gorgeous from sun up to sunset.

Think an orange lip is too much too soon? Then start with a coral and work your way up to orangey gorgeous in time. I dare you!

My favourite of all time has to be the Rimmel Moisture Renew LipstickIn Love with Ginger‘ mixed with Milani ‘Sweet Nectar‘.

Pink Lips

If you know, then you know, I am a sucker for a pink lip. Hot pink to be precise. If I had to wear one shade everyday for the rest of my life it would be ‘Girl About Town’ by MAC. This is not what is pictured though.

As with an orange shade it stops the show and commands attention.

I am rocking Maybelline ColorSensational Lipstick in Pink Punch. Another drugstore steal that is packed with vibrant colour. Long lasting and moisturising too.

Here are some swatches of the colours also (sorry the lighting wasn’t great)! They are not extremely glossy or sticky but do have a nice shine to them. There are some awesome dupes on the market as well with a matte finish if you prefer.

swatches

Greyish and stone finish lips are all the rage now as well as blue, greens and rainbow bright lip colours. How bold are you willing to go?

Beauty Holder Beauty Tip: Always make sure lips are moisturised and soft when applying any lip colour but especially bold colours. Want to stop it from bleeding? Blot lips with tissue and use a powder puff with a little powder on top to ‘set’ lips in place. Lip liner and concealer is also a great way to make sure the lips remain the focus.

#CopMyCloset | Birthday Chic (for cheap)! £$€

Hey Everyone!

Hope this blog meets you all in the best of health and happiness. I know it’s been a while. Got a couple of posts out this week to hopefully make up for it!

My #CopMyCloset posts have been getting a great response. Thank you! For reading them, for sharing them and even more so just for taking the time to embrace this feature.

I am still currently on a lifestyle change working on my fitness and much more. Some of that struggle means having to get clothes that fit. That can be expensive and I have some tips on that in a future blog! It seems like I am always out celebrating a birthday and this outfit is from another such happy occasion. This was on a budget though and I was pretty pleased with my finds!

I asked earlier on my Facebook page if anyone could guess the cost of this look (without the shoes). It was under £20 and the breakdown below.

full length DM  Lizzy and DM

BodySuit: PrettyLittleThing £7 | Wide Leg Striped Pants: Primark £7 | Shoes: River Island (about 8 years old) £45 approx | Lace Bralet: Boux Avenue £26

Both the PLT and Primark items were sale bargains… LOVE! The bodysuits come up big so I would suggest getting a smaller size than your normal. It is a wrap bodysuit with no clasps or hooks so be mindful of this when ordering. Shucks, be mindful when wearing as those toilet breaks are no joke! It also is very revealing in the front so I chose a bralet as opposed to just a bra for the right amount of sexy that I could manage (covers eyes).  I purchased this when I was a fuller size. Due to the wide leg of the pant you may want to try smaller. There is a slight stretch but this is very slight and Primark trousers are known to run smaller.

Happy Birthday to the beautiful Elizabeth! We hope you enjoyed your birthday surprise. It was a great night and loads of fun. Shouts to Lils, Ray Ray Milz, Delrose and Amanda! What happens in Camden… stays there!

                                                 ALL THE LADIES

I hope you enjoyed this post. I’m sorry they are few and far between but I am working on getting back to regular posting soon!

Have a lovely week loves!
