Lush Life? 🤔

Hey Loves,

How are you? How have you been doing? I wonder if you really answered that question or did you just read it in your mind and ignore it? Tell you what let’s make this a bit more interactive! I really wanna know how you’ve been doing and although this is a blog post it does not mean we can’t talk so…

  • Let me know how you are in the comments below! Write a word, sentence or paragraph!
  • Hit me on my social media all the links will be at the end of this post!
  • Go a step further and call or message me! If you’re a real OG then you have my contact details. *Hint- they are also on the contact me tab if you look hard enough!

You see, I do want to know how you are. I don’t always get comments on the posts although there are some people who comment religiously (shout out to you Glemz ❤ you dollface) and although I appreciate all of you who read my posts, I want us to get more interactive). You make this blog with me and you are every word I type and crazy though I have… it is you and me…and I thank you!

Sorry for the long intro but hey, it was how your girl was feeling and it had to be said!

With all the mayhem that is my life right now, I feel as though I have been neglecting my skin care.  If you check out some of my previous posts you will know that I am big on looking after skin. Now that I am in my 40s I have noticed that my face is a little drier than before and those dark circles, well they are still there. I have a general regime that I follow but I have been slacking so I will be setting myself a challenge and I want to challenge you too! There will be more on that on Wednesday this week so stay tuned!!

I recently visited LUSH handmade cosmetics for the first time. Yep, I normally just walk past the place but my homie Glemma dragged me inside and I thought I would give it a try! I picked up two products: LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL and OATFIX Fresh Face Mask! Both products Vegan 🌿 (so that’s a yes from me) and I am excited to give them a try and write an honest review on how my skin feels after using them! Will it be the Lush Life for me in the future? Can I get my skin back on track?

Let the Good Times Roll has popcorn (yep actual popped corn 🌽), maize flour, cinnamon and more!

Oatfix is for dry and sensitive skin with bananas and vanilla!

Those are the basics for now and more to come when I do a full review! My main concern is trying not to eat it, to be honest! I kid! or am I? Do you use Lush products? Tell me more!!!

Background on skincare: Dry skin type / Exfoliate 3 times a week / I use a serum along with day, night and eye creams /  I also go to Clarins at least once every 2 months for a facial! I am not loyal to any brands but do not use products tested on animals.

New On Location with The Beauty Holder out tomorrow! See what I got up to at The International Women’s Peace Group event for International Women’s Day and also The Glamour Beauty Festival! Your girl has been busy!

So I look forward to hearing about you! 😊

Besos! 💋

Straight…no chaser! Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask!

Hey Everyone!

I let this review run on a little longer than the original 6 week deadline as I wanted to give it a real chance with my skin. For my intro to this product, click here.

Not sure if it is down to the fact that I have been wearing more make-up lately or just my new skin care regime but I have been noticing couple more blackheads. Skincare is super important to me and it trumps make-up every time. No matter how much make you put on it is important that your skin is not neglected. Whether you suffer with acne, blemishes, the odd breakout or more, you need to look out for your skin. I know you don’t feel as confident when your skin does not look it’s best. Ensuring that you have a regular routine for your skin type makes a huge difference. As well as treating any issues or concerns you may have. It is not enough to simply ignore the issue and use make-up as a solution! A house will not stand without a secure foundation! I know you get me! Here are some of my previous skin care posts.

Most of the blackheads I find like to hold court around my nose. I have learnt not to squeeze or pick at them as they like to retaliate and come back with their whole family! Disrespect! I have tried a couple of products and even some of the home remedies like ‘toothpaste’. I am pretty sure we have all tried toothpaste. In any case, this mask came highly recommended and I wanted to see if the hype was real!

What I love about Origins!

100% natural oils and organic ingredients are nurtured into every single product. Origins are committed to ‘protecting the planet and it’s resources’ and that for me speaks volumes in a single sentence. Many companies say they are natural or promise to kind to the skin but when you break down all the additives and parabens you clearly realise how unkind they are. Origins is not that company. With everything from their REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE program to their PLANT A TREE campaign it is not hard to see why they are a brand you can trust. The dilemma comes when trying to figure out what to try next! For more about Origins, check out their website.

As always with any of my reviews, opinions are that of my own and products have been purchased with my own money unless otherwise stated. That being said all reviews will be my honest opinions.

Beauty Holder Roundup!

Price: 4.5/5

I paid £22.00 for my charcoal mask. For the size (3.4 fl oz. / 100ml).  The only reason they lost a half point is for the simple fact that there is a smaller size at £10.00 which would have been great for me to trial the product. As far as skin care goes I think the price is reasonable for a high end skin care product.

Packaging: 5/5

This had to get top marks for a couple of reasons. One of the main ones I mentioned above. The recycling program that allows you to bring back any brands cosmetic jar, bottle, tube and the like (even ones that were previously unrecycleable) to Origins where they will recycle them for energy recovery. How awesome is that! It is things like this that have really made my heart happy. The mask is contained in a soft clear plastic tube that allows you to see the product. It has a simple white flip top cap. There will be very little wastage but with any kind of tube like this if you really want to get the last drop I am sure the old cut and scoop method will work well. It is within travel limitations so can stay in your pocketbook on the plane- hey… just putting it out there.

Product: 4/5

I am sure the saleswoman felt like it was the spanish inquisition when I started asking about this product. I may love beauty products but I don’t love wasting money. It was important that this product worked with my dry skin and not against it. That it was simple to use and so on. She was clear and honest. I remembered she explained that it has been known to cause a slight breakout as it clears the pores and gets out any dirt. Instructions are clear. Open pores, layer product and rinse off. One of the main ingredients as the bottle will list is Lecithin which dissolves impurities. If it dissolves them there should not be any breakouts, right?

Used it within days of purchasing and even did a mini video. It feels real cool when it goes on the face and dries within minutes. It dries tight. Very tight. Moving my face was a mission. I felt like if I sneezed my face would crack. It was that serious. When you get an instant reaction to a product like that for me, it means one of two things. It is working or there may be trouble ahead. Luckily iy was not the latter. I left it on for about 10 mins then rinsed off with warm water.

Did my blackheads vanish immediately? No! Did the go at all? I would say a couple but some of the ones I found more noticeable were still there. Within a couple of days I noticed a little spot come up. So the saleswoman was right. I was not impressed nonetheless. I mean I want products to protect me from blemishes not encourage them to come out and say hello. That is where I needed to change my thinking.

No matter how much I cleanse, tone and moisturise, it is that deep clean that really does get to the dirt you don’t see. This mask provides that. The blemish came and left and over the next couple of weeks, the blackheads moved out too. I have used it once a week and I do actually see a difference. It feels like my skin is brighter in places and those pesky blackheads are very few and far between.

On the down side, I have noticed that my skin is a little drier since using the mask. Although I was advised it is appropriate for all skin types I am reluctant to use it more than once a week and in fact may go as far as using it once a fortnight. That to be fair is my only gripe. People with dry skin don’t want anything to add to the dryness. The odd blemish/ spot I can deal with as it means my skin is getting clean deep down under. That really is not a bad thing.

It does not have an unpleasant odour and is a little tacky to the touch. When it dries you want to peel it off as it looks like that kind of mask but it isn’t and you will have a tough time treating it like one. It washes off easy with your hands or a wash cloth.

A little goes a long way and a thin layer does the trick. Just make sure those pores are wide open so that it can work its magic.

I am working on more for my skin such as my 30 day water challenge and more organic products. This mask with its White China Clay which ‘absorbs toxins’ is now going to be a part of my regime. It is a worthwhile investment if you have not thought about a deeper cleanse. When you next use a make-up wipe of face cloth for a surface cleanse, remember there is more under the surface that we don’t see!

Ask me not why I was making that face! Oh dear!

Here is a pic of my skin with just my signature brows and lipstick on. No foundation, bb cream, tinted moisturiser- nothing! This is why I say it has brightened my skin. Iphone 4s pic in natural light. I was totally having a good brow day!

Hope you enjoyed this review. This was my first time trying Origins and now it looks like they have a new customer. Beauty with conscious appeals to me on all levels.

Help! I’ve run out of… (part 2)!

This was the second post I blogged last year when this was all new to me. I had so much fun writing it, I thought I would bring out some more of the secrets from my beauty (kitchen) cupboards. So get ready to raid the pantry, you’ve got some goodies ready and waiting to become your new guilty pleasures!

Here are 5 more quick alternatives for when your beauty stock has run out.

  1. Cucumber Cooling Face Pads! Who knew cucumbers were great for cleansing and cooling? I did! No one likes puffy eyes in the morning or in the night for that matter. Blend/ juice a couple of cucumbers with water. Get some clean beauty pads  soak them in the juice. Put them in a clean plastic bag in the freezer to cool. In the morning take a couple out for your eyes. Take the chill off first by moving them about a little (with clean hands) and then place them on each eye for approx. 5 mins. Your eyes should be refreshed and awake in no time. You can also keep any left over mixture in the freezer.
  2. Tea bag lady! Not a fan of cucumber then what about those left over herbal mint tea bags such as camomile or peppermint? Follow the process above from the freezer part and let those bags get cool overnight. Use them in the morning instead of the cucumber.
  3. Lemon Scrub a dub! I am surprised at how many people do not know about this little gem. Lemon is a great natural brightening agent and works well to even out the skin from scarring from acne, if done on a regular basis. Put a little lemon juice (or slice a lemon) with some olive oil and sugar on a cotton pad (or on the lemon slice) and gently exfoliate your face- don’t forget the neck. Leave on for a couple of minutes and then wash off with warm water. You skin will feel super soft and look radiant. Try not to get course sugar as you still want to be gentle. Also watch the eyes. Lemon juice in the eyes, stings- fact! Start by doing this a couple days a week. The olive oil should leave your skin supple.
  4. Coriander! Coriander! Blackheads getting on your last nerve or nose? A little turmeric, coriander leaves and water will soon help. Mix together to create a paste. Put it on the affected area and then wash off.
  5. Feet So Soft!  Supporting our bodies as well as sandals, heels, sneakers, shoes etc take their toll on our feet. A great way to keep them soft and supple is to once a week lather them in olive oil and put your socks on for at least 30 mins to an hour. If you can sleep in them do! Your feet will be softer than before and it will also help to break down some of the hard skin on the heel. Lotions can dry out your skin because of all the additives and preservatives.

Let me know what some of your natural beauty secrets are!

Origins Clear Improvement: Active Charcoal Mask: Review in progress!

Hey Everyone,

I have been trying to better my make-up skills, hence all the looks you have seen me post in recent weeks. My skin is not used to it and so I wanted to do a little more to my normal skin care regime.

Origins are known for their natural organic skin care. Free of dyes, petroleum, parabins and animal ingredients. They also do not test products or ingredients on animals – which is an instant plus in my book. I have been a proud Vegetarian since January 2013 and have been looking at the products that do not test on animals or use their ingredients. I am not fully there yet but am learning and researching more everyday.

I purchased the mask last week on the recommendations of some friends and have tried it once. I using it once a week and will be giving it 6 weeks for my ‘Straight, no chaser review’. It is said to ‘draw out dirt’ from the pores and to clear minor blemishes.

Here is a quick pic of me trying the mask:

Once the mask had dried!

Check out my Facebook page for a  little video… (covers eyes)!

First impressions?

  • Feels good on my skin
  • Did not seem to dry out my skin- although the mask dries tight and quick!

Typical, I forgot to take an after shot when I washed the mask off but will remember for week 2.

Don’t forget to check back in a couple weeks for a full review.

Hope you enjoyed this 99th post! So what will number 100 be? I cannot even believe I am up to post 100 already! Feeling quite emotional. It would not be the blog it is without your support. Thank you 100 gazillion times and so much more. Stay tuned!
