Redefining YOUR Beauty…

Lush Life? 🤔

Hey Loves,

How are you? How have you been doing? I wonder if you really answered that question or did you just read it in your mind and ignore it? Tell you what let’s make this a bit more interactive! I really wanna know how you’ve been doing and although this is a blog post it does not mean we can’t talk so…

  • Let me know how you are in the comments below! Write a word, sentence or paragraph!
  • Hit me on my social media all the links will be at the end of this post!
  • Go a step further and call or message me! If you’re a real OG then you have my contact details. *Hint- they are also on the contact me tab if you look hard enough!

You see, I do want to know how you are. I don’t always get comments on the posts although there are some people who comment religiously (shout out to you Glemz ❤ you dollface) and although I appreciate all of you who read my posts, I want us to get more interactive). You make this blog with me and you are every word I type and crazy though I have… it is you and me…and I thank you!

Sorry for the long intro but hey, it was how your girl was feeling and it had to be said!

With all the mayhem that is my life right now, I feel as though I have been neglecting my skin care.  If you check out some of my previous posts you will know that I am big on looking after skin. Now that I am in my 40s I have noticed that my face is a little drier than before and those dark circles, well they are still there. I have a general regime that I follow but I have been slacking so I will be setting myself a challenge and I want to challenge you too! There will be more on that on Wednesday this week so stay tuned!!

I recently visited LUSH handmade cosmetics for the first time. Yep, I normally just walk past the place but my homie Glemma dragged me inside and I thought I would give it a try! I picked up two products: LET THE GOOD TIMES ROLL and OATFIX Fresh Face Mask! Both products Vegan 🌿 (so that’s a yes from me) and I am excited to give them a try and write an honest review on how my skin feels after using them! Will it be the Lush Life for me in the future? Can I get my skin back on track?

Let the Good Times Roll has popcorn (yep actual popped corn 🌽), maize flour, cinnamon and more!

Oatfix is for dry and sensitive skin with bananas and vanilla!

Those are the basics for now and more to come when I do a full review! My main concern is trying not to eat it, to be honest! I kid! or am I? Do you use Lush products? Tell me more!!!

Background on skincare: Dry skin type / Exfoliate 3 times a week / I use a serum along with day, night and eye creams /  I also go to Clarins at least once every 2 months for a facial! I am not loyal to any brands but do not use products tested on animals.

New On Location with The Beauty Holder out tomorrow! See what I got up to at The International Women’s Peace Group event for International Women’s Day and also The Glamour Beauty Festival! Your girl has been busy!

So I look forward to hearing about you! 😊

Beauty Is… ❤ featuring Felicity!

Hey Beautiful People!

Friday greetings to one and all! I am so excited to be back with another instalment of Beauty Is… my new feature that highlights what beauty means to YOU! We all view beauty differently and have routines and secrets that have been passed down through the generations. This is your opportunity to share a little of your beauty wisdom with the world.

This week I am pleased to introduce the very beautiful (definitely inside and out) Felicity to you. She took some time out with me to talk beauty…

Hey Felicity! 👋

1: Do you wear makeup?! If so, when did you start?

Yes! Pretty much every day since I was about 15.

2: How would you describe your makeup style?

Natural-looking, simple, fresh!

3: What product can you not live without? (Skincare or makeup)

Oohhhh I can’t choose… mascara or something for my lips – gloss or just blistex.

4: Breakdown your beauty regime?

I have to use a foaming cleanser because anything gel/cream-based clogs up my pores and I break-out. I use St Ives Apricot Scrub and have been addicted to it daily for 10 years!!
I use a light moisturiser, then for every day I wear foundation, concealer, blusher, mascara and lip gloss. I also use an eyebrow pencil and curl my eyelashes.
For weekends and evenings I wear a shimmery eye colour and use a highlighter, benetint and the Bobbi Brown shimmer brick.
At night I use micellar cleansing water to remove my make-up, and a toner.
My skin is definitely clearer since I started cleansing properly last year rather than just using make-up wipes.
I occasionally use a clay mask which is great for my oily skin.

5: Who is your Beauty Inspiration or icon

Julia Roberts, Blake Lively and Beyoncé.

6: Makeup nightmare

White lipstick!!!! I bought it from The Body Shop when I was about 14. Absolutely awful.

7: Any tips or secrets?

Remove your make-up properly!!
To look fresh when you’re really tired, line your lower lash line with white/nude eyeliner to open up your eyes.

8: In a sentence or two, explain what beauty truly means to you?!

Beauty means knowing who you are and learning to accept yourself inside and out. It also means being a selfless, compassionate, genuine person who lives life thinking of others beside themselves.

I love your makeup nightmare. I am sure I own some white lipstick somewhere. Oh the shame! Your inner beauty is inspiring as well as your outer gorgeousness. Thank you so much for taking part Felicity! You doll!

So there you have it! Another instalment of Beauty Is… | If you missed the very first one with Rosie Rockets, click here.

Why not share what it is to you. We would love to hear from you. Email me for more information

See you on my next post which features a little of my current fashion obsession as well as glitter!

Have a wonderful weekend Loves!

Beauty Is… ❤ featuring Rosie Rockets!

Hey Beautiful People!

Happy Friday (or whatever day you end up reading this post). I have been thinking about how I can connect with you more. I know you have heard me say a thousand times how much I love interacting with you and talking to you. I enjoy being able to share what I know about beauty whilst appreciating it means different things to everyone. It was whilst asking myself what Beauty is to me that I decided that I wanted to know more about what it is to YOU!

I’ve compiled a list of 8 beauty related questions and every Friday I will feature a different reader telling us what Beauty Is… to them! I’m so excited about this new series and hope you will enjoy it and take part. Find out how later!

Say hello to the beautiful Rosie Rockets! Our first Beauty Is… feature!

1: Do you wear makeup?! If so, when did you start?

Yes!! I started dabbling when I was a late teen, not really knowing what I was doing. This continued on into my 20s when I really got interested in make-up. I started wearing it full time/every day when I was about 25.

2: How would you describe your makeup style?

Simple, there’s nothing too complicated about my every day look.

3: What product can you not live without? (Skincare or makeup)

It’s a three way tie between liquid liner, mascara and lipstick

4: Breakdown your beauty regime?

In the morning I wash my face with either Cetaphil or QV (both are gentle for the skin).

I then moisturise and depending on how my skin is I’ll use a primer.

Next is foundation and concealer on all my red bits/under eye bags, followed by some blush. Finish off with lashings of liquid liner and mascara and lipstick.

In the evening I wash my face with a gentle face wash that targets dry and combo skin. I think tone with witch hazel and liberally apply rose hip oil. Once a week I will deep cleanse with my faux Clarisonic and when I remember I use a hydrating face mask.

5: Who is your Beauty Inspiration or icon

I have several and it changes all the time, but the founding members are Debbie Harry, Marilyn Monroe, Madonna and Drew Barrymore.

6: Makeup nightmare

There are too, too many to mention. The first one that springs to mind is wearing dark eye shadow all the way up into my brow line and not blending – I looked hideous!

7: Any tips or secrets?

Always take your make-up off before bed, and don’t just use a make-up wipe, they just smoosh the make-up around your face without taking it off properly.

8: In a sentence or two, explain what beauty truly means to you?!

Beauty to me means being confident in your skin and loving what’s inside as well as what’s on the outside. Also being a beautiful and caring person, if you’re a mean spirited being then there is no beauty in you!

Thank you so much Rosie for taking part! You’re truly BEAUTIFUL from the inside, out!

Want to find out more about Rosie?! Well check out her awesomely awesome blog

Hope you enjoyed this post! If you would love to share what beauty is to you then please email me your answers to the above questions to | please also send a picture or two! Looking forward to featuring you on The Beauty Holder soon!

Have a great weekend!

Straight…No Chaser! Mary Kay Skin Care Review!

Hey Everyone!

I sometimes am reluctant to do product reviews because I don’t want people to rush out and purchase (or not) items based on what I say. A lipstick, fine but skin care products are a different ball game. I receive some very lovely comments and emails from people asking what I use on my skin so that they can go and purchase it. Whilst the compliments are very very kind indeed and make this old lady feel warm inside, I always advise (basically give a speech) about not rushing to purchase something that I use and expecting the same results.

All of my reviews come with pretty much the same disclaimer. They are always my honest humble opinion. I am not paid to make these reviews. Products have been purchased with my own money. Whilst I love that you enjoy what I review I also want you to know that I do not want you to spend money unnecessarily. I do not want you to spend money on products that you have not done your research on first.

I have been shouting from the roof tops about my newly ‘natural’ hair experience. I have watched countless YouTube videos on hair, read blogs and articles on products and if I went out and bought all the recommended products I would be broke and homeless no doubt as I would have no money for anything else. I say all of this to simply say do your research. My information can form part of that research but what works or does not work for me may be a different story all together for you!

Looking in the mirror lately I feel like my age. I am in my late 30’s and feel it. I absolutely know I have not looked after my skin the way I should have from a young age. It has really only been since I got into Make-up and beauty that I have paid a little more attention to my skin and have vowed to do better ever since. Sorry for going on. Let me just get to it!

I consider my age, skin type, work environment/ job, time, benefits when looking for products for my skin. A friend from High School contacted me a couple of months back about trying Mary Kay. She had recently become a rep for the brand and wanted to tell me all about it. It worked out well as I was due to visit America for the holiday season. After a few mishaps we met up and I purchased a skin care set.

What I like about Mary Kay!

Like Avon, Mary Kay was one of those products I associated with my Mom. Sometimes I wish I paid attention to the regime she used because she is a beautiful woman who looks as good now as she did when she was my age. They have been around for more than 50 years and they have worked hard to cater to women of all ages and races. They are a global brand that has evolved with time but kept the same promise throughout to help women be all they can be and achieve their dreams.

Mary Kay Skincare

The time wise line is supposed to be a ‘miracle set’ with ‘age-fighting benefits’. I remember reading that they had revamped their skin care lines and although a tad apprehensive, I was excited somewhat also. The kit I purchased came with a time wise, 3 in 1 cleanser, day solution, night solution and moisturiser.

Beauty Holder Roundup!

Price: 4.5/5

For the 4 (four) full sized items above, I paid about $90 which at the time was about approx £70. A little goes along way and I have barely made a dent in them despite using the products since the beginning of the year on a daily basis. I would say it is value for money. Mary Kay is not available in stores as far as I know and is online or via beauty consultants so there is a direct cost saving in that alone.

Packaging: 4/5

The glass bottles that the day and night solution come in affected the score. Glass bottles with pumps that you can twist and lock. I don’t like glass bottles. When they are in my travel bag I can hear them clunking about. The day solution bottle is not clear and so you cannot see how much you have used or may be wasting as it is inevitable that some of it will waste. The cleanser and moisturiser are the largest sizes at 4.5oz and 3 fl oz respectively. They come in a soft pink shimmer plastic squeeze tube with the Mary Kay logo along the side. The day and night solutions are 1 fl oz each. I guess the greedy side of me thinks I should be getting more but you really only need about 1 or 1.5 pumps of each. I can see the way they draw you in with the night solution bottle as that is clear so you can see the multi coloured solution beads. You know that instantly has your mind thinking it is good for you.

They came in a see through bag with a booklet and each were individually packaged in a box with the same design and signature logo.

Product: 4.25/ 5

When my friend came over to show me the products I was able to try them out. It was great at the time but being able to use them for the past 7-8 weeks has made it more realistic to see how my skin feels about them. I don’t know if I have seen the full benefits yet. My skin does not seem to like the cleanser and I find it drying but the other products I like. There is no funny smell or residue and they do not appear harsh for my dry skin. They are pretty lightweight- especially the solutions and it feels like there is nothing on my face at all.

The day solution has a SPF35 factor which provides serious protection against sun damage. With the moisturiser it then feels a little heavier on my skin and you can maybe take this as double protection. I don’t like the greasy feeling it leaves me with after about 30 mins but once fully absorbed into the skin it doesn’t look or feel as bad. I have noticed some shine throughout the day where I normally do not have any but again it could be this transition to the products that is taking a little longer than normal.

According to Mary Kay, Timewise has 11 age-defying benefits such as energising, renewing and smoothing the skin. It does make my face look refreshed but I cannot say I can check all 11 benefits off yet. They do say that the benefits are of course at maximum potential when used together.

I cannot believe I am actually saying this being the selfie queen that I am. I do not have any comparison photos to show you my skin before I started with it. I do have one of me now. I will say this is not just as a result of the Mary Kay as I also exfoliate, use my clay mask and so on and so forth 🙂 I had already started on the brows when I remembered to take this pic. Don’t judge me!

simply me

So after all of that. Would I purchase Mary Kay again? Yes I would. I would certainly go for the night solution and possibly moisturiser out of the set above . I am pleased with what I have seen so far and am going to really empty these products to do them full justice and ensure it is money well spent. I will keep you posted on my progress.

Thank you to my friend Jodi for introducing me to Mary Kay. If you would like to find out more, check out the Mary Kay website. If you are in the Florida area and would like Jodi’s details please let me know.

Have you tried Mary Kay? Would you if you haven’t already? What are your thoughts on Mary Kay?

Coming up! Something for the Men and some makeup looks (it has been a while)!

Have a great day!

Straight…no chaser! Origins Clear Improvement Active Charcoal Mask!

Hey Everyone!

I let this review run on a little longer than the original 6 week deadline as I wanted to give it a real chance with my skin. For my intro to this product, click here.

Not sure if it is down to the fact that I have been wearing more make-up lately or just my new skin care regime but I have been noticing couple more blackheads. Skincare is super important to me and it trumps make-up every time. No matter how much make you put on it is important that your skin is not neglected. Whether you suffer with acne, blemishes, the odd breakout or more, you need to look out for your skin. I know you don’t feel as confident when your skin does not look it’s best. Ensuring that you have a regular routine for your skin type makes a huge difference. As well as treating any issues or concerns you may have. It is not enough to simply ignore the issue and use make-up as a solution! A house will not stand without a secure foundation! I know you get me! Here are some of my previous skin care posts.

Most of the blackheads I find like to hold court around my nose. I have learnt not to squeeze or pick at them as they like to retaliate and come back with their whole family! Disrespect! I have tried a couple of products and even some of the home remedies like ‘toothpaste’. I am pretty sure we have all tried toothpaste. In any case, this mask came highly recommended and I wanted to see if the hype was real!

What I love about Origins!

100% natural oils and organic ingredients are nurtured into every single product. Origins are committed to ‘protecting the planet and it’s resources’ and that for me speaks volumes in a single sentence. Many companies say they are natural or promise to kind to the skin but when you break down all the additives and parabens you clearly realise how unkind they are. Origins is not that company. With everything from their REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE program to their PLANT A TREE campaign it is not hard to see why they are a brand you can trust. The dilemma comes when trying to figure out what to try next! For more about Origins, check out their website.

As always with any of my reviews, opinions are that of my own and products have been purchased with my own money unless otherwise stated. That being said all reviews will be my honest opinions.

Beauty Holder Roundup!

Price: 4.5/5

I paid £22.00 for my charcoal mask. For the size (3.4 fl oz. / 100ml).  The only reason they lost a half point is for the simple fact that there is a smaller size at £10.00 which would have been great for me to trial the product. As far as skin care goes I think the price is reasonable for a high end skin care product.

Packaging: 5/5

This had to get top marks for a couple of reasons. One of the main ones I mentioned above. The recycling program that allows you to bring back any brands cosmetic jar, bottle, tube and the like (even ones that were previously unrecycleable) to Origins where they will recycle them for energy recovery. How awesome is that! It is things like this that have really made my heart happy. The mask is contained in a soft clear plastic tube that allows you to see the product. It has a simple white flip top cap. There will be very little wastage but with any kind of tube like this if you really want to get the last drop I am sure the old cut and scoop method will work well. It is within travel limitations so can stay in your pocketbook on the plane- hey… just putting it out there.

Product: 4/5

I am sure the saleswoman felt like it was the spanish inquisition when I started asking about this product. I may love beauty products but I don’t love wasting money. It was important that this product worked with my dry skin and not against it. That it was simple to use and so on. She was clear and honest. I remembered she explained that it has been known to cause a slight breakout as it clears the pores and gets out any dirt. Instructions are clear. Open pores, layer product and rinse off. One of the main ingredients as the bottle will list is Lecithin which dissolves impurities. If it dissolves them there should not be any breakouts, right?

Used it within days of purchasing and even did a mini video. It feels real cool when it goes on the face and dries within minutes. It dries tight. Very tight. Moving my face was a mission. I felt like if I sneezed my face would crack. It was that serious. When you get an instant reaction to a product like that for me, it means one of two things. It is working or there may be trouble ahead. Luckily iy was not the latter. I left it on for about 10 mins then rinsed off with warm water.

Did my blackheads vanish immediately? No! Did the go at all? I would say a couple but some of the ones I found more noticeable were still there. Within a couple of days I noticed a little spot come up. So the saleswoman was right. I was not impressed nonetheless. I mean I want products to protect me from blemishes not encourage them to come out and say hello. That is where I needed to change my thinking.

No matter how much I cleanse, tone and moisturise, it is that deep clean that really does get to the dirt you don’t see. This mask provides that. The blemish came and left and over the next couple of weeks, the blackheads moved out too. I have used it once a week and I do actually see a difference. It feels like my skin is brighter in places and those pesky blackheads are very few and far between.

On the down side, I have noticed that my skin is a little drier since using the mask. Although I was advised it is appropriate for all skin types I am reluctant to use it more than once a week and in fact may go as far as using it once a fortnight. That to be fair is my only gripe. People with dry skin don’t want anything to add to the dryness. The odd blemish/ spot I can deal with as it means my skin is getting clean deep down under. That really is not a bad thing.

It does not have an unpleasant odour and is a little tacky to the touch. When it dries you want to peel it off as it looks like that kind of mask but it isn’t and you will have a tough time treating it like one. It washes off easy with your hands or a wash cloth.

A little goes a long way and a thin layer does the trick. Just make sure those pores are wide open so that it can work its magic.

I am working on more for my skin such as my 30 day water challenge and more organic products. This mask with its White China Clay which ‘absorbs toxins’ is now going to be a part of my regime. It is a worthwhile investment if you have not thought about a deeper cleanse. When you next use a make-up wipe of face cloth for a surface cleanse, remember there is more under the surface that we don’t see!

Ask me not why I was making that face! Oh dear!

Here is a pic of my skin with just my signature brows and lipstick on. No foundation, bb cream, tinted moisturiser- nothing! This is why I say it has brightened my skin. Iphone 4s pic in natural light. I was totally having a good brow day!

Hope you enjoyed this review. This was my first time trying Origins and now it looks like they have a new customer. Beauty with conscious appeals to me on all levels.

All About Skin! 30 Day Water Challenge!

Whenever people ask me what they could do to improve the look or touch of their skin, I tell them to drink more water. I talk a lot about beauty from the inside out and want to get back to that. I have noticed that my face is looking dull and not as fresh as it was a couple of months ago. What have I been doing differently? Neglecting to drink water. So I am going to work on the 30 Day Water Challenge!

What that means in essence is that I am going to consume at least 2 or 2.5 litres of water per day everyday starting from tomorrow for the next 30 days. I am going to take pictures of my face every day to see if I can see a noticeable difference. 30 days may not be enough to see a spectacular difference but I am hoping that it is. I am likely to continue this well past 30 days but wanted to give myself a starting point. When you fall off the water wagon it may take baby steps to get back on! 🙂

This is a personal challenge for me and one that is going to focus on my skin as a priority. I am almost at the end of the 6 week Charcoal Mask review that I am doing and this I hope will help. No matter how many products I put on the outside, the inside has to be part of the process. Replenishing my skin from within is something that I can no longer ignore.

Have you been drinking your 8 glasses per day? Why not take up the challenge with me and let me know how you get on!

Drink your water

Wish me luck!

Straight… no chaser! Anastasia Brow Product Review!

Hey everyone!

I posted a talk through review of this product on my new YouTube Channel along with a tutorial on how I do my brows using the products. For regular followers of my blog, you will know I like to do a ‘Straight, No Chaser’ review on products so here we go!

Brows are a big deal for me as you can probably tell by previous posts where I talk about not leaving home without brows and lips . For the longest time I was happy to have my brows threaded but not put any additional product on them although they were extremely thin and sparse. I am now more confident with make-up and understand the importance of brows and how they shape and frame the face.  I have alot of products for the brows and now with this product, I have some more.

On my vacay to New York, I picked up the Anastasia Beverly Hills, No Brows, No Problem! kit. I purchased it from Sephora as an exclusive new product. The review you are about to read, as always, is my honest opinion based on my use of the product. I have not been paid or endorsed in any way.

Why I love this product!

Anastasia Beverly Hills is known for her brow and eye products. Colours are rich in pigment and textures are kind to the skin. I was first introduced to her products by a friend who bought me a brow kit as a gift a year ago. I instantly fell in love with the brow powder and is was like nothing I had used before. My brows looked fuller and more natural almost instantly. When I saw the No Brows, No Problem kit in Sephora, I wanted it immediately. When I saw that there were 3 products in the kit, I thought even better. I did not need it but I wanted it. Read on to find out how this product is rated in Price, Packaging and Product!

Beauty Holder Roundup!

Price: 4/5

What makes it value for money and worth the score above is the fact that you get 3 products for the price. They are full good-sized products and not mini versions/ samples which you tend to get in kits sometimes. It retailed for approximately $59 or $69. I am not sure if that was the permanent price or a special at the time. It is still a little pricey, however, which is why it did not get a higher score from me. I am conscious that you are paying for a well-known name in the beauty industry and it is more of a high-end department store brand as opposed to a drug store one.

Packaging: 4.5/5

I love when packaging is sleek and simple. Clearly labelled and hard-wearing. When I am on the go with my kit for shoots, it can take a beating. There is nothing worse than opening up your case to see items damaged no matter how much care and attention you paid to looking after them.

The kit comes in a box with 3 items. There is no extra security in the box such as bubble wrap or bagging. The actual items themselves are durable. There is a serum, pencil with a spoolie/ brush at one end and clear brow gel. They all have the Anastasia Beverly Hills logo and font and bold and bright. They look expensive. That is something my mom would say. They give the impression of quality. The serum has a net weight of 2.5g or 0.04 oz. The pencil is 0.085g/ 0.003 oz. The brow gel does not state weight or size. Items do not appear to be recyclable which is reflected in the score.

Product: 5/5

The brief prelude above tells you in so many words why I love the product. I am going to divulge some more reasons. Let me start with the fact that you get 3 great products in the kit. You get a Brow Enhancing Serum which I personally find amazing and has definitely helped my brow hairs grow thicker and faster. A skin care product as part of a make-up kit is a great idea and shows that they do not only care about the end result but enhancing your brows too. Used before applying the pencil and gel and then at night before bed it is said to ‘encourage the growth of thicker hair’. A little bit of this goes along way. I have found that the serum also leaves my brow hairs a little tacky and gives the pencil something to adhere to. I used it once with some Anastasia Brow Duo Powder and it was amazing.

Next you have a dual purpose product the Brow Wiz. A twist action mechanical brow pencil at one end and a spoolie on the other end. You can pick up the brow wiz separately in several shades suitable for hair colour, eye colour, or personal preference. The pencil is one of the best I have used and it is something I use on a daily basis. It offers great definition to shape and fill in brows. Where the hair is sparse the product does not make the skin look waxy or too drawn on. The tip is fine and you can mimic brow hairs by using a light hand and this product. You can twist the product the opposite direction to make sure that it is safe in the cap and doesn’t break. Simple things like this make me happy. It is without a doubt a simple and effective tool to give you natural or dramatic brows depending on how you like. It has a brilliant matt finish also. The spoolie at the other end is a bonus. Simple brush away excess product after use  and brush your own brow hairs before you use the pencil. It is great when you have everything you need at your fingertips.

Finally you get the clear brow gel. Helps the product and your hair stay in place and not budge. Great if you have oily skin or sweat alot or will have them on for a long period of time. With me not having a lot of brow hair, I find that the gel can give a bit of a shine factor to my brows so I don’t always use it. When used on clients that have full brow hair this works great.

I really do love this product and it makes me excited to try other products by Anastasia. Taking time on the brows with a product as great as this will give such an excellent well polished look. Looking at the individual retail prices for each product in this kit it is value for money and it will last a long time. I get numerous compliments on my brows when I use this product and enjoy using it on my clients. The name is a brand I trust and that is because the products speak for themselves. Can you hear them? What they say is ‘my brows look fabulous!’

This is a pic of the products with the box when I got them from Sephora and now.
