Hey Everyone!
I let this review run on a little longer than the original 6 week deadline as I wanted to give it a real chance with my skin. For my intro to this product, click here.
Not sure if it is down to the fact that I have been wearing more make-up lately or just my new skin care regime but I have been noticing couple more blackheads. Skincare is super important to me and it trumps make-up every time. No matter how much make you put on it is important that your skin is not neglected. Whether you suffer with acne, blemishes, the odd breakout or more, you need to look out for your skin. I know you don’t feel as confident when your skin does not look it’s best. Ensuring that you have a regular routine for your skin type makes a huge difference. As well as treating any issues or concerns you may have. It is not enough to simply ignore the issue and use make-up as a solution! A house will not stand without a secure foundation! I know you get me! Here are some of my previous skin care posts.
Most of the blackheads I find like to hold court around my nose. I have learnt not to squeeze or pick at them as they like to retaliate and come back with their whole family! Disrespect! I have tried a couple of products and even some of the home remedies like ‘toothpaste’. I am pretty sure we have all tried toothpaste. In any case, this mask came highly recommended and I wanted to see if the hype was real!
What I love about Origins!
100% natural oils and organic ingredients are nurtured into every single product. Origins are committed to ‘protecting the planet and it’s resources’ and that for me speaks volumes in a single sentence. Many companies say they are natural or promise to kind to the skin but when you break down all the additives and parabens you clearly realise how unkind they are. Origins is not that company. With everything from their REDUCE, REUSE, RECYCLE program to their PLANT A TREE campaign it is not hard to see why they are a brand you can trust. The dilemma comes when trying to figure out what to try next! For more about Origins, check out their website.
As always with any of my reviews, opinions are that of my own and products have been purchased with my own money unless otherwise stated. That being said all reviews will be my honest opinions.
Beauty Holder Roundup!
Price: 4.5/5
I paid £22.00 for my charcoal mask. For the size (3.4 fl oz. / 100ml). The only reason they lost a half point is for the simple fact that there is a smaller size at £10.00 which would have been great for me to trial the product. As far as skin care goes I think the price is reasonable for a high end skin care product.
Packaging: 5/5
This had to get top marks for a couple of reasons. One of the main ones I mentioned above. The recycling program that allows you to bring back any brands cosmetic jar, bottle, tube and the like (even ones that were previously unrecycleable) to Origins where they will recycle them for energy recovery. How awesome is that! It is things like this that have really made my heart happy. The mask is contained in a soft clear plastic tube that allows you to see the product. It has a simple white flip top cap. There will be very little wastage but with any kind of tube like this if you really want to get the last drop I am sure the old cut and scoop method will work well. It is within travel limitations so can stay in your pocketbook on the plane- hey… just putting it out there.
Product: 4/5
I am sure the saleswoman felt like it was the spanish inquisition when I started asking about this product. I may love beauty products but I don’t love wasting money. It was important that this product worked with my dry skin and not against it. That it was simple to use and so on. She was clear and honest. I remembered she explained that it has been known to cause a slight breakout as it clears the pores and gets out any dirt. Instructions are clear. Open pores, layer product and rinse off. One of the main ingredients as the bottle will list is Lecithin which dissolves impurities. If it dissolves them there should not be any breakouts, right?
Used it within days of purchasing and even did a mini video. It feels real cool when it goes on the face and dries within minutes. It dries tight. Very tight. Moving my face was a mission. I felt like if I sneezed my face would crack. It was that serious. When you get an instant reaction to a product like that for me, it means one of two things. It is working or there may be trouble ahead. Luckily iy was not the latter. I left it on for about 10 mins then rinsed off with warm water.
Did my blackheads vanish immediately? No! Did the go at all? I would say a couple but some of the ones I found more noticeable were still there. Within a couple of days I noticed a little spot come up. So the saleswoman was right. I was not impressed nonetheless. I mean I want products to protect me from blemishes not encourage them to come out and say hello. That is where I needed to change my thinking.
No matter how much I cleanse, tone and moisturise, it is that deep clean that really does get to the dirt you don’t see. This mask provides that. The blemish came and left and over the next couple of weeks, the blackheads moved out too. I have used it once a week and I do actually see a difference. It feels like my skin is brighter in places and those pesky blackheads are very few and far between.
On the down side, I have noticed that my skin is a little drier since using the mask. Although I was advised it is appropriate for all skin types I am reluctant to use it more than once a week and in fact may go as far as using it once a fortnight. That to be fair is my only gripe. People with dry skin don’t want anything to add to the dryness. The odd blemish/ spot I can deal with as it means my skin is getting clean deep down under. That really is not a bad thing.
It does not have an unpleasant odour and is a little tacky to the touch. When it dries you want to peel it off as it looks like that kind of mask but it isn’t and you will have a tough time treating it like one. It washes off easy with your hands or a wash cloth.
A little goes a long way and a thin layer does the trick. Just make sure those pores are wide open so that it can work its magic.
I am working on more for my skin such as my 30 day water challenge and more organic products. This mask with its White China Clay which ‘absorbs toxins’ is now going to be a part of my regime. It is a worthwhile investment if you have not thought about a deeper cleanse. When you next use a make-up wipe of face cloth for a surface cleanse, remember there is more under the surface that we don’t see!
Ask me not why I was making that face! Oh dear!
Here is a pic of my skin with just my signature brows and lipstick on. No foundation, bb cream, tinted moisturiser- nothing! This is why I say it has brightened my skin. Iphone 4s pic in natural light. I was totally having a good brow day!
Hope you enjoyed this review. This was my first time trying Origins and now it looks like they have a new customer. Beauty with conscious appeals to me on all levels.
Coming soon, Rimmel Lipstick Review and Face of the Night look!
