Happy Blessed Birthday Breonna Taylor! #SayHerName

Dearest Breonna,

Blessed 27th Birthday!

You were probably thinking of the different ways you wanted to celebrate your special day, especially during these unfamiliar virus-driven times.

You were probably planning every little detail from your clothes to hair.

You could probably guess who would be the first to wish you happy birthday out of your family and friends.

You probably also still planned to go to work though because you loved your job and helping others was a innate passion. As an essential worker you were on the front line supporting others through this virus crisis.

You were probably thinking about your future plans for the coming year and how 27 was gonna be your time…

BUT your life was viciously, and senselessly taken before any of your plans could be realised.

Your murder, at the hands of the police has resonated deeper than you know. It’s personal even though we never met. It feels like the loss of a sister even though we are not related by blood.

We say YOUR name loud alongside the countless other victims whose lives were taken by the stronghold of deep-seated racism. Institutionalised within structures and systems that house/ protect lawless police officers whose duty is to serve and protect and racist individuals who see Black lives as less than any others.

WE SAY ENOUGH.

ENOUGH!

We shout, cry, pray, march, protest and fight for justice for you, Breonna Taylor and:

George Floyd. Stephen Lawrence. Mark Duggan. Sandra Bland. Sean Bell. Ahmaud Arbery. Eric Garner. Philando Castile. Trayvon Martin. Atatiana Jefferson. Michael Brown. Alton Sterling. Botham Jean. Jamar Clark. Dreasjon Reed. Ezell Ford. Michelle Shirley. Stephon Clarke. Sean Rigg. Laquan McDonald. Tamir Rice. Shukri Abdi. Freddie Gray. Pamela Taylor.

And the many, many, many others whose names we know and those we don’t.

Although we have fought before against police brutally killing Black people, in America predominantly … this fight is different. There is a worldwide condemnation against police brutality and systemic racism. Covert and overt racism. All and any RACISM. We refuse to be silent. We refuse to back down!

We are committed to ensuring justice for you. That those responsible for your death and the death of our other Black sisters, brothers, fathers, mothers, sons, daughters, grandparents, grandchildren, aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends… will be held accountable and justice will be swiftly served. We won’t give up!

May God keep you close by his side angel.

Happy 27th Birthday Breonna Taylor! We celebrate and honour you.

  1. Thanks for posting this, sis. It’s important that we remember and honour the ones we’ve lost so cruelly and before their time. The marathon needs to continue πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€

    1. Hey love! I wanted my first post about police brutality and racial injustice to spotlight and honour Breonna Taylor. It was really important to me as Black women are suffering and as pillars of our community we are typically the first overlooked. I have so many more posts to come but Breonna’s life needed to be celebrated on her birthday. May she rest in eternal peace! The marathon continues indeed Sis and we run on! πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€πŸ–€. Thank you for your support as always xoxo
