World Mental Health Day 🌎

Hey Loves,

Today (October 10th) is World Mental Health Day, however, much like many events we observe, recognise, or celebrate shouldn’t we take stock of our mental peace daily? That is so much easier said than done. With the demands and pressures of every day life: family, work, relationships, global pandemic, social injustice and so much more, how, when and why is mental health supposed to be a priority?

This year’s theme is ‘Mental Health in an unequal world‘. For some of the pressures above that unequal world seems so much more prevalent at the moment. So it is important more than ever to talk about and keep talking about mental health needs, access, inequalities, frustrations and anything that keeps the conversation going.

Start with yourself. A friend of mine recently shared a post about boundaries, the importance of creating them and sticking to them. It resonated with me because my mental health has been impacted recently by people in my life not respecting my boundaries. Protecting your peace should not come with a price… that you pay. You shouldn’t have to apologise for demanding respect that you give so freely. I reiterate what I have said so many times before, it is ok to put yourself first or ask for help if you can’t go it alone.

How can you reach out to others who may be struggling. Let them know you are there. It doesn’t have to be driven by your desire to help but rather simply making a call, sharing a joke or listening ear may put a smile on someone’s face and uplift them without you knowing it. They will let you know if they are ready for anything more.

So I encourage you to this WMHD to talk about mental health. You mental health matters… EVERY DAY!

Besos,

Donna-Marie xoxo

p.s You can find some more of my blogs dedicated to mental health here, oh and here and yep… here is another one. Would you look at that, another one (*DJ Khaled Voice*). One more for good measure? Here you go!
